At present, the insulators used in power projects around the world are classified into three main categories
according to their materials, namely glass, ceramics, and composite insulators.
1. Glass insulator
Advantages: the mechanical strength of the surface of the glass insulator is high, the appearance is not easy
to produce cracks, and the aging speed is slow;the operation and maintenance cost is low.
Disadvantages: Because of the transparency of the glass, it is easy to find small cracks and various internal
defects and damages during the shape inspection.
2. Ceramic insulator
Advantages: Good chemical stability and thermal stability, strong anti-aging ability, good electrical and
mechanical functions, and flexible assembly.
Disadvantages: Defects are not easy to be discovered, ; ceramic insulator zero value detection requires
testing piece by piece, which requires a lot of manpower and material resources; the probability of accidents
caused by lightning strikes and dirty flashovers is high.
3. Composite insulator
Advantages: small size, easy to maintain; light parts, easy to carry; high mechanical strength, not easy to break;
seismic function surface, good stain resistance; fast production cycle, high quality stability.
Disadvantages: Anti-aging ability is not as good as ceramic and glass insulators, and the production cost is higher
than ceramic and glass insulators.
